Calculators

A collection of 7 aviation calculators accessible from the Tools page.

Unit Converter#

Convert any aviation quantity between common units.

  • Categories: fuel (kg, lbs, US gallons, litres), distance (NM, SM, km), speed (kt, km/h, mph, Mach with altitude/temperature input), temperature (°C, °F, K), pressure (hPa/mb, inHg, mmHg, PSI).
  • Real-time bidirectional conversion as you type.
  • Fuel conversion uses the configured fuel density (default Jet A-1).

True Airspeed (TAS)#

Compute TAS from indicated airspeed, altitude and outside air temperature.

  • Inputs: IAS (kt), altitude (ft), OAT (°C)
  • Output: TAS in knots
  • A delta line shows how much TAS deviates from IAS at the given conditions.

Altimeter Correction#

Compute the true altitude corrected for non-ISA conditions (cold temperature + non-standard QNH).

  • Inputs: Flight Level (FL), Static Air Temperature (SAT, °C), QNH (hPa)
  • Output: true altitude in feet
  • Useful for terrain clearance checks during cold winter approaches.

Radio Range#

Compute the line-of-sight radio range to a ground beacon.

  • Inputs: Flight Level (FL), beacon elevation (ft)
  • Output: range in NM
  • Based on the standard √(h) formula with refraction correction.

Takeoff True Stop Margin#

Calculate the true stop margin for a rejected takeoff using an energy-based formula.

  • Inputs: runway length (m), TOLD stop margin (m), OAT (°C), FLEX temperature (°C)
  • Output: true stop margin in meters
  • An info popup explains the energy-based methodology:
    • At the same indicated V1, a colder OAT means lower TAS → less kinetic energy → shorter stopping distance.
    • Extra engine thrust at colder OAT (with the same FLEX rating) is intentionally not modelled (conservative).
    • Pressure and humidity effects on density are not modelled either.

METAR RWY State#

Decode the METAR runway state group (e.g. R09L/529425).

  • Input: the raw 7-digit group after R<RWY>/
  • Output: human-readable lines for each digit:
    • Deposit type (clear / damp / wet / pools / snow / ice / etc.)
    • Contamination extent
    • Deposit depth
    • Friction coefficient or braking action

Delay Code Decoder#

Look up IATA delay codes with full descriptions.

  • Search by code number or keyword.
  • Results are grouped by category (airline, handling, weather, ATFM, etc.).
  • Each code includes a detailed description of the delay cause.
